Obituary for Bertha J. Luaces (Riera)

Bertha J. Luaces (Riera)
LUACES, Bertha J. (née Riera), passed away surrounded by loved ones on January 6, 2018. She was of Cherry Hill N.J., formerly of Northern Virginia, and born and raised in Camagüey, Cuba. Age 99. Beloved wife of the late Raúl Luaces. She is the loving mother of Hortensia Luaces, Bertha Weldon and the late Raúl Luaces. Dearly loved grandmother of Raúl Luaces Diaz, Lourdes Luaces and her husband, Alexander Fred, Megan DeVirgilis and her husband, J. DeVirgilis, and Kerry Weldon Diana and her husband, Paul Joseph Diana, and great grandmother of Alejandro Fred, Valentina Monroe Diana, Vaughn Joseph Diana and Lola Rose DeVirgilis. She is also survived by her much loved former son-in-law, Jolyon James Weldon. Bertha became a seamstress after immigrating to the United States under political asylum. In 1995, she became a proud U.S. citizen. She loved her coffee and her sweets, and was a voracious reader and an amazing cook. Not a day went by that she didn’t share stories with her grandchildren about her beloved Cuba. Her family was her pride and joy, and in her later years, her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. A private visitation and Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, January 20 from 11:30-12:30pm at the Bradley Funeral Home (Rt. 73 and Evesham Rd.) in Marlton, N.J. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
