Age 93 of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ
Passed away peacefully in his home on March 6, 2017, surrounded by his beloved wife of 67 years, Jean Thompson (nee Murphy), and loving daughters Debra Thompson, Linda Gilmore (Douglas) both of Marlton, NJ and Sandra Aromando (Thomas) of Ocean City, NJ. He is the proud grandfather of Rebecca (Michael), Pamela (Matthew), Katherine (James), Virginia and Matthew, and great grandfather of Nicolette, Desiree, James, Celena and Ryan.
George grew up in Woodbury, NJ. He was a WWII Veteran, proudly serving his country in the United State Merchant Marines Reserves as a Lieutenant (junior grade) officer. He graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY. After the war, he graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University, Philadelphia.
He worked for various construction companies and the Simplex Valve and Meter Co. From 1962 until his retirement in 1985, he worked at the Naval Air Engineering Center at Philadelphia Naval Yard/Lakehurst, NJ Naval Air Station in the catapult test department as a research engineer and logistics manager. He was a member of Mates and Pilots of America and National Organization Masters.
He was a committed Christian, serving
3 years as an Elder in the Faith United Presbyterian Church, Medford, NJ and was a faithful member for 39 years at Wiley Church, Marlton, NJ.
George loved the sea-it was his passion. He loved going out in his boat and fishing. He will be remembered for his great engineering and construction skills, his strong work ethic and his love and loyalty to his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Thursday March 9 from 9:30-10:30am, and to the Funeral Service at 10:30am Thursday, all at Wiley Church, 99 E. Main St., Marlton, NJ. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Wounded Warriors Family Support, 920 S. 107th Ave, Suite 250, Omaha, NE 68114
